Jim

Hi, I'm Jim Geier.

Welcome to Vermont Folk Rocker.
This is the rocker that I first designed in 1974. I’ve made hundreds of pieces of furniture, with the best of everything put into this rocker.

Can I show you around my shop?

I’ll introduce you to the crew as we go.

Jim Trevor

Darrick

This is Darrick Jagbandhansingh. He’s a master craftsman here at Vermont Folk Rocker. He's worked here for close to eight years. Here he’s setting the rope holes to the side of a rocker. Darrick loves Hawaii and flying lessons.

This is Alice Chandler. She’s routing the edges of a cherry board that will eventually be turned into blocks for the seat of the rocker.

Alice has been here just over a year.
She enjoys playing with her three kids, reading about life sciences, and
dancing.

Here Alice is gluing up the side of a rocker, using a handmade jig to get good compression on the front joint.

Here is Trevor James, checking the quality of the cherry wood as it comes into the shop. This will also be made into blocks for the back and seat of the rocker.

Trevor has been here nearly three years. He and his wife Keri like to spend time at home with their little girl, Carlie. Would you like to meet her?

Carlie

Hi, Carlie!

She likes to visit her Dad in the shop. Here she tries out a child’s rocker that’s just her size.

Now Trevor and Darrick are working at a table saw, making one of the many cuts needed in the process of making the rocker.

They wear hearing protectors on their ears, as it can get quite loud in the shop!

VJ

V.J. Guarino is drilling holes in a rocker side. Rope will be threaded through the holes to hold the blocks in place.

V.J., who grew up in New Hampshire, is a banjo player who is working on inventing his own electric banjo.

Kevin Blakeslee chooses a rocker side to finish sanding.

Kevin grew up here in Starksboro. He started out mowing the lawn,
and over the last 7 summers has learned all about woodworking and has even
made his own electric violin. He plans to return to Cornerstone University
in the fall.

Tea Break

It’s a lovely autumn day, and Alice Christian, V.J., Alice Chandler, Darrick and Trevor sit out next to the shop on an afternoon tea break.

Alice Chandler demonstrates a dust mask as well as showing a glued-up rocker side in cherry. The rocker side is rough cut. The next step is to shape and sand it.

I’d like you to meet Alice Christian. She’s the voice on the phone when you call. She’ll try her best to connect you with a rocker that’s made for you.

She has been here for three
years. She loves hiking the hills of Vermont.
